iPhone 4 camera doesn't work

Have you tried basics from the manual?

Restart.

Reset.

Restore.

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Restore?

You do a "restore" from within itunes on your computer with the iphone hooked up via the usb cable.

The same issue occurs with my phone. I just got my phone Monday.

I just got my IPhone 4 yesterday and my camera is doing the same thing as yours is...it also looks like the picture you posted, except at the bottom of my screen it has a camera icon and on the right side of the screen it has a tiny camera and a tiny video camera and a little slider under it to pick which one you want to use, only it's frozen!!! It won't let me choose which one I want to use. So I can't take picture or video anything. I've already tried everything suggested here..I did reset it, I turned the phone off holding down both buttons, I also went in ITunes and did a restore. That didn't work either. And it does erase all your contacts, but it does let you load everything back onto your phone. Just make sure you sync your phone with ITunes before you do a restore and it will back up all your contacts and other info....that way you won't lose anything.

I don't know what the answer is to our dilemma. I've had a Iphone since they first one came out I've never had any camera issues. I think it's a hardware problem and it will have to be sent in to Apple to be fixed or they will have to mail you a replacement. That's very disapointing considering the fact that I just got the phone yesterday. I had to wait a week for it to come in already. I will be demanding that they let me keep this phone until they send me a replacement that works!!

I have noticed this is related to the phone getting hot when charging. When the phone gets hot the camera doesn't function. I am not talking about ambient heat, but rather from the charging process.

I took my in to the Apple Store yesterday. They ran some test. Found out there was a problem with the software that manages the camera. He did a system restore. It didnt work, so he gave me a new camera.

Did any of you download the Stickam app?

Just wondering if the app may be infected, and that's the reason my camera stopped working. It's the only app that accesses the camera.

Mine is not working either. It was fine until a few days ago. There is a lot of news about it on iphone blogs. Appears to be a software issue. I don't think getting a new phone will be a permanent fix.

my front camera doesn't work. when I swap main camera to the front one, it simply freezes. It didn't work with a facetime call... Seems to be a hardware error...
