default open program won't change

If you're not using the 'Get Info' option then your won't be changing all files of that specific extension.

Right click or command click the file, Get Info, Open with. Right under 'Use this application to open all documents like this one' choose "Change All..."

This will apply to any file type you perform this on and not just images.

This is very helpful, but it leaves one aspect unanswered: now that I've changed the default application to open all files of a certain type, how do I also change the icon that represents those file types to reflect the new default I've changed to?

Randall_2023 - thank you so much!! Think this is new as it only occurred recently. There's no reason to give us an 'always open with' option in the open dialog if you have to do it somewhere else!! This came up only recently so something must have changed, but thanks so much for the tip!
