Hi Ladyloverose,

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community.

Re: "The safari search engine keeps freezing up"

Wondering which search engine you are using on Safari.

If the current "default" search engine doesn't work for you, you might want to try a different one.

Apple support's article:

Customize your Safari settings on iPhone – Apple Support

says:

"You can change Safari settings in the Settings app.

From the Home Screen or App Library, go to Settings  > Safari, then adjust any of the options. For example:

    • Search Engine: Choose the search engine to use when you enter search terms in the search field."

Eg: Search engines may include: DuckDuckGo, or Yahoo, Google, etc.

If you happen to experience the same difficulty with another search engine as well:

You may want to check:

✽ that your wi-fi and internet connection are operating smoothly.

✽ that your iPhone's iOS software is up-to-date

(iOS 16.4.1 is the latest version.)

✽ that your iPhone is not running low on memory / storage.

Eg: best to have at least around 8 Gb free at all times for operating.
