My iPad won't turn on.

What do I do when my iPad won't turn on? I charged it for a couple of hours; I tried holding down the power button; holding the power and home button; clicking volume up and volume down quickly and then holding the power button; nothing worked. Any suggestions? It's fairly new -- I purchased it new just over a year ago but the warranty has expired.

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge undisturbed for at least an hour - or preferably overnight. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.

My iPad will not start up again. It seems like the whole battery is permanently dead.

I’ve done what the apple help info says- holding the buttons- and yet nothing happens. It’s been on charge too.

Honestly, I would just like some help but I’m guessing I’d have to pay for any real change.

You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad for free - and you can explore your available options:

I placed my iPad on my bed which has a heated mattress and covered it up with bed sheet. Left it for couple of hours to warm it nicely. Now any time I run out of my battery and if IPad shuts off, this is the only way it will start again. Before this I tried all the suggestions in different discussion groups, none of them worked but someone suggested to warm up the IPad and thank God it started again. God bless the person who suggested this trick.
