The average life of most Time Capsules was about 7-8 years. At that point, both the hard drive and power supply tended to start acting up, so even if we can get the Time Capsule working again, I would not recommend that you use the product as your primary back up device.

Apple does not offer repairs on the Time Capsule.....even if you are willing to pay.....but an independent shop might be able to take care of some simple things. The issue would be cost on any major repairs that might be required.

If you want, we can go through some basic troubleshooting to get an idea of what might be wrong. On the other hand, you might think about retiring the Time Capsule because of its age.

I use my Time Capsule to backup my new 2TB Mac Studio with no issues. I just replaced the hard drive in the Time capsule with on of those 16 TB Western digital UltraStar helium filled data center drives, 4 TB is reserved for back ups, and the rest is partitioned as network attached storage. From what I have seen with Time Capsules and airport extreme devices, it's not the power supplies that go bad, it's the little fan inside the unit that goes bad and stops cooling which causes intermittent thermal shutdown. The fans are available and easy to replace. If a power supply goes bad, it's usually just the filter capacitors which, if you can solder, are also easy to replace.

The time capsule still works fine for my purposes, but if I decide to replace the router I will just set the time capsule in bridge mode (WiFi off) and connect it via ethernet cable to a Mesh Router and use it for backups and network attached storage
