DESKTOP FILES MISSING MAC

I am using my dad's apple id on my mac ever since, I am getting annoyed since I always get his reminders/messages. Yesterday, I changed the apple id to my apple id. Ever since the change, my desktop files are missing and my wallpaper is back to the basic design. Should i re-login my dad's apple id to recover my desktop files? Or is there any way to recover them without having to use my dad's apple id.

Hello leana719,

If the desktop files are tied to his Apple ID, then yes, you'd need access to his Apple ID in order to access them. You could then email a copy to yourself in order to have them and then add them back once you've signed back into your Apple ID. You can then make use of iCloud Drive to save your documents, which is detailed at Access and manage your files in iCloud Drive - Apple Support.
