Prevent automatic photo conversion

Hi,

I've imported photos and videos from my iPhone 13 onto Macbook Pro (M1 chip) Photos, and am trying to upload them on Google Drive. However, the moment I drag photos from the Photos app onto the drive webpage, the photos get converted from .HEIC to .jpeg format.

I'd like to retain the original state of photos while uploading on Google Drive (hence I'm directly uploading to Google Drive and not Google Photos). Could someone please assist on how can I prevent the automatic conversion?

Eg. Upload photo: abc.HEIC, upload as shown on drive: abc-xxx-xx-xxx-xxxx_c.jpeg

I tried uploads using the google drive app on my iPhone and it uploads in HEIC format directly, but it's very slow, hence the need to upload via my Mac.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.3

When you drag photos directly from the Photos window to another location, you are dragging the previews of the photos, not the originals. And the previews are JPEG files.

To save the originals in the HEIC format somewhere else, select the photos in Photos, then use the command "File > Export > Export unmodified originals" and select your Google Drive as the destination.
