AppleTV network unavailable

When trying to open AppleTV on the Samsung smartTV, it says "Network Unavailable. There were errors with this connection. Wait a moment, then try again."

This has been going on for a few days. All my other apps work (Disney, Netflix, Hulu, Spectrum/calble, etc.) TV has been "reset" and internet connection is good. AppleTV subscription also up to date/paid for.

I have spent a ton of money buying movies for my own collection. Now I can't watch a movie all the way through without having to close and reopen, restart, reset .... on and on. This is ridiculous. All my other services (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Amazon) work just fine and don't report availability issues. My internet connection is fine. The problem is with your app and it would be terrific if you all (Apple) would fix it! Sorry. This is a new issue for me and it is very frustrating to have a collection of almost 3000 movies ... none of which I can watch and enjoy without this issue coming up.

I am also having a similar issue. Every show plays for about a min and then I get a message saying the video is not available at this time. I am using a Fire Stick and have made sure everything is up to date and cleared cache, reset the app and restarted everything. All other apps work just fine so it has to be something with Apple and third party streaming systems

Same thing is happing to me with the AppleTV+ app on all my devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV 4K. I read that I need to change my DNS to my ISP versus using the "Automatic" setting on my Google Wifi.

I have never had this problem before using the AppleTV+ app, and now I need to spend hours trying to figure out a way to get it to work.

We pay $6.99/mo for TV+ for Apple to tell me it will not work with the way my home network is set up, when literally every other app works perfectly fine. Unacceptable.

I was able to fix the problem by digging into my router settings and changing my DNS from Automatic to ISP.

My Nest WiFi uses a google DNS by default which Apple doesn’t like. The minute I switched it to ISP, everything worked.

Total BS that I have to do that when literally everything else in the house works on Automatic DNS except Apple streaming.

Something is causing the app to be unable to contact the remote servers.

See if this document has clues that apply to your situation: If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app - Apple Support

“Network Unavailable” may mean no valid reaction from the remote server.

  1. Verify that your router doesn’t block Apple’s servers (or its CDN) through a firewall setting, if you customized that.
  2. Verify that your router doesn’t block ports that Apple services like to use, if you customized that.
  3. Verify that you use a good DNS on your router, like the one from your ISP, which gets updated with all server names that Apple might use, if you customized that.
  4. Verify that your TV has the correct date and time and timezone, as Apple may be more strict about that (TLS) than other content providers.

Else

  1. Check for Tizen OS software updates.
  2. Check for Apple TV app updates, if not set to do so automatically.
  3. Try resetting the Apple TV app.
  4. Try deleting and re-installing the Apple TV app, if available through your device.
  5. Try a cold restart of the TV (not standby-wake, but really off for a moment).

We are having the same network unavailable problem with our Apple tv app on our Sony tv. I called Apple support and they said they’ve heard of people having the issue, but we had no luck fixing it. Frustrating as our tv is hooked up via Ethernet and all other streaming services work fine. Support suggested uninstalling the app on another device and logging back in. I’ll have to try that later when I have time.

Same issues here.

Is this also for the Apple TV app on a Samsung smart TV?

This is what Samsung Support suggests:

What to do if an app is not working on your Samsung TV - Samsung Support

  1. Cold reboot the TV,
  2. Update the TV system software, if available,
  3. Delete and reinstall the misbehaving app (if deletion is supported for this app),
  4. Reset the ‘Smart Hub’ (I think like a factory reset for the apps part of the TV).

If you need further assistance after that, please continue with Apple Support.

Not sure if it's because I'm on a free trial.

It is not. Trial subscribers have access to all of the same content as paying subscribers.

I can watch the first episode of Silo.

Even non-subscribers can access select first episodes, as a sort of teaser.

Verify that you are signed in successfully to the Apple TV app, through the in-app Settings ⚙️, using the Apple ID account that has the Apple TV+ subscription linked to it.

I'm having the same issue. I'm using a Fire stick 4k. This started happening yesterday. Everything I try to play on Apple TV plays for about a minute then I get the error that the video is unavailable. Every other streaming app on my Fire Stick plays without issue, Disney+, MAX, Hulu etc. I've cleared the cache, uninstalled, changed networks and nothing seems to work. This must be on Apple's end.

Thank you, this was what finally worked for me after trying to find a fix for a month or 2. I had to set a custom dns on my router because there's no way to change it on my roku ultra.

I used cloudflare's public dns, 1.1.1.1 primary and 1.0.0.1 secondary for ipv4. I also found a spot to enter ipv6 dns addresses and used 2606:4700:4700::1111 for primary and 2606:4700:4700::1001 for secondary. Hopefully that helps someone spend less time searching for a solution.

I’ve been having this same issue.

At first I wasn’t able to watch certain shows/movies, but was able to watch others. Then last night, I really wanted to watch a certain show that wasn’t working…so after an update & restart had no effect, I deleted & reinstalled the app.

Now, from the very beginning, when I click the “sign in or sign up” option, it just buffers forever. So I don’t think it has anything to do with my specific Apple + account…since the trouble starts before I even sign in.

I’ve seen your response on several different threads with ppl having this type of issue, & after trying all the usual things, I’ve come to believe it does have something to do with my Spectrum router & Apple TV +.

I haven’t customized anything, at least not on purpose…(I’m not tech savvy AT ALL), I don’t even really know what a router is/does.

So my question is, how do I verify whether or not the ports Apple services like to use are being blocked? Is that something I look up in settings, or do I need to call Spectrum?

Idk what DNS or ISP means in the slightest, so I just have to hope it doesn’t have to do with those things.

If I didn’t want to watch Monarch so badly I’d have already deleted the app & service altogether. Lol
