Did you used to have an eSIM installed? I had the same issue suddenly but on my 13 pro max after updating. My carrier said it looked fine had no clue. I even did a diagnostic with Apple tech support who told me it was throwing a code for a cellular antenna hardware malfunction. This was literally a couple days after my year warranty was up. Needless to say I was upset. I’m thinking I have to buy a new phone I could not afford.

Well I got on Reddit. Which is by far the best way to get a general consensus on just about any topic.

But a lot had the same issue.

Someone pointed out that they thought it was a glitch with the new OS, where if you had an eSIM that had the option turned on for “cellular data switching” that allows it to jump back and forth prioritizing the line with the best service, but you now no longer have said eSIM, the OS would try to keep switching to a no longer existing data line.

After almost 3 weeks only being able to talk and text with no internet, I spent $4.50 on a global eSIM with 1gb of data.

Used 5mb of it and turned the line off so all data ran through my primary so I could see if it worked again. I turned the line off. I did not remove the eSIM. That’s the important part.

And there it was. The little 5g logo that I hadn’t seen in close to a month. Speed tests no longer at 0.5 mbps. The eSIM sits there unused now.

I theorize that even if you used all the eSIM data, but just kept the eSIM, it would still work, but just to be safe I don’t touch it. It still has almost a gig on it.

Went from a new $1,300 phone to a less than $5 fix. I was thrilled and I’m glad I didn’t factory reset my phone that whole time.

What I’m wondering about is why Apple hasn’t addressed it considering the overwhelming amount of people I saw complaining about it. And why is the phone telling them it has a hardware issue. Because I saw dozens of people with phones less than a year old saying that no one could figure it out and they paid for replacements of all kinds of different parts and still had to buy new phones.

Cmon Apple. If a stoner in his mom’s basement (xxxbakedlikeacake was his handle) can figure that out you gotta step your game up. I’m taking my phone to him next time.
