Can't download High Sierra installer app through App Store

I need to download the High Sierra installer app to create a bootable USB drive for my late 2010 Macbook Pro.

I'm using a 2020 Macbook Pro on Ventura 13.2.1, but the App Store button to download the installer takes me to the Software Update.

Is there any other way (eg. direct link) that I could download it? My older Mac is dead and I still want to use it.

Thanks!

Hi there CC,

I understand your want/need to download an old OS to get your older Mac (which you love) up and running again. I just had a problem with my 2010 Macbook Pro (13", Mid 2010) and had to redownload the OS High Sierra. (I am also using a Powerbook G4 from 2003).

You can find High Sierra here: How to download macOS - Apple Support

It will take you to a list of OSs. Click on High Sierra and it will take you to High Sierra in the App Store. Click download and it should download a file. Eventually, you will have to do a few updates and security updates to take it the final version of High Sierra.

If you can start up your old Mac and go to that page, it should download and you click on it and it will over write the existing High Sierra on the older Mac, replacing it with uncorrupted files if that's the problem.

You can also put that High Sierra file onto a thumb drive (which I have also done) just incase.

I think you can download the OS High Sierra to your newer computer. Do not click on it. Transfer that file onto your thumb drive and old Mac.

Hopefully that helps you.

Hi DaB,
I think CC is trying to get his old Mac, which runs on High Sierra up and running again.
You are right, his new computer won't run on High Sierra, but he should be able to download a file and use it on the older Mac.

FWIW, I know what he is trying to do. And, I didn't say his new computer won't run High Sierra, I said he can't download it. 😎

You are correct. I just tried to download an OS that I know won't work on this laptop. It won't let me. You are right. I thought it might let him download a file, which he could archive or use elsewhere.

So he has no choice but to get that old laptop working in order to find High Sierra and download it.

Thank you for correcting me.

Sincerely,
