The iPad2 is indeed obsolete - with no support whatsoever.

Apple ended update support for the iPad2, iPad2 and iPad mini1 in September 2016. These models of iPad cannot be updated to iOS 10 or later major versions of iOS, as the internal hardware does not meet the minimum technical requirements for new versions of iOS/iPadOS. This limitation cannot be bypassed; these are 32-bit architecture devices, whilst all recent versions of iOS/iPadOS are designed for 64-bit hardware platforms.

You need to consider that compatible Apps for older models of iPad are no longer available. App Developers have dropped all support for 32-bit devices and many for iOS versions preceding iOS11/12/13. All 32-bit Apps have been retired and removed from the Apple App Store - and can no longer be (re)download or (re)installed, which may severely limit the usefulness and utility of your iPad2. As such, if you want or need to access most current Apps, requiring more recent versions of iOS than your iPad is capable, you’ll need to consider replacement of your iPad with a newer or current model.

The only practical means of moving data to the iPad2 would be to consider using iTunes for Windows - although quite now much use or utility the iPad will provide will be limited:

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Recently? An iPad 2nd gen is from 2011. It’s very old.

It didnt install anything.

Not surprising. Apple gear tends to have hardware and update support for five to seven years.

Found out its obsolete.

Very much so, yes.

I have a Dell Latitude laptop from 2018.

A PC from 2018—PC vendors aren’t all that easy to differentiate—can run operating systems, including Microsoft Windows. And a PC from 2018 probably can’t run Windows 11, either.

Microsoft has tended to emphasizes long-term compatibility, and slower changes. Windows 10 was 2015, Windows 11 was 2021.

Apple emphasizes newer features and newer hardware and quicker updates. Apple iPad software releases tend to be yearly, with updates between.

No. Apple loads apps onto an iPad from the app store.

Additionally, iPad runs completely different apps from those on Microsoft Windows.
