"iTunes has stopped working" again -- version 12.10.11.2

I'm experiencing the "iTunes has stopped working" problem again. I'm running iTunes 12.10.11.2 on Windows 7.

I've had this problem before, but with version 12.10.10. See this thread:

Just like last time, this time too it helps to block iTunes from accessing the Internet.

Incidentally, I run Windows in a VMware virtual machine. Last time I used this VM and ran iTunes, I did not have this problem. Why does it happen now, suddenly, with no apparent reason?

It is worth noting that iTunes is no longer properly supported for Windows 7. Features that require iTunes to communicate with Apple's servers will fail because your old computer doesn't have up to date secure transport mechanisms.

Windows 7 is past end of life. It is probably time you upgraded or bought a new computer. See https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/.

That doesn't sound like a hardware problem?

In the long term, an upgrade is inevitable. The whole point of keeping this Windows virtual machine is to run Windows software that I have yet to dispense with, and soon enough, Windows 7 will not be up to that task.

Hello Cronstaal,

With iTunes not working for you, we'd recommend looking into the troubleshooting steps that are outlined at If you have problems playing music in iTunes on PC - Apple Support This will guide you through the common causes for iTunes not to work.

Be certain that your internet connection doesn't include added security software like firewalls that may be blocking the necessary ports to connect, as that can cause it not to function properly.

Cheers!
