I can't remember doing all of this with my £10 Logitech mouse. I've had this mouse for a few weeks now and it has its pros but for its price, it shouldn't have so many cons.
You would need to take that up with Logitech Support

Are you talking about the Logitech mouse or the Apple Magic Mouse?
Logitech sells mice for Windows, Macs, as well as Linux/Unix systems. The latter 2 definitely believe in a middle click, and Logitech accommodates that market.
However, if you are talking about the Apple Magic Mouse, then Apple originally did not believe in right-click, and has never believed in middle-click.
Having difficulty configuring an Apple Magic Mouse to perform a middle-click would be expected, and will require 3rd party software.
My preference is BetterTouchTool (paid software), but i use it because I for so many other things. Enabling a middle-click when working with Linux/Unix X11 based systems is something I’ve done, but most definitely not my main reason for using BTT over the past 14 years.

FWIW, apparently I misread your post. If you were indeed talking about the Apple Magic Mouse, you would need third-party help to emulate a "middle click" as Bob pointed out.
