Yes. It will be a separate subscription app. $4.99/month. $49/year.

Completely inbounds complaint. I had the same thoughts as you when I signed up for the monthly subscription for my ipad FCP. I have already paid full price for it on my Mac 2 years ago. I’m seriously considering dropping my subscription and resorting to LumaFusion, which I’ve used for a couple of years as well, as it seems pretty robust. Interface is a bit different than FCP, but I only paid once for that for a lifetime of upgrades. Frankly it gets tiring being ‘subscriptioned’ to death by these companies for exorbitant profit margins.
You might find Oliver Peters blog on the FCP iPad app interesting.

Your best bet to express your concerns to Apple is to use the Feedback menu:
I am writing this out of sheer anger and frustration due to your recent decision regarding the Final Cut Pro Subscroption Plan on iPad. As a loyal customer who has purchased the software on my Mac system, I was shocked to learn that it has been transformed into a monthly subscription service on iPad.
This decision not only harms my interests as an already-purchased user but also reflects poorly on Apple as a company. It is unfair to make us pay for something we have already paid for and enjoyed using without warning or explanation.
I urge your team to reconsider this controversial change and restore Final Cut Pro back to its original form. Your valued customers deserve better than being subjected to this change, which appears to prioritize your profit over our benefits.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and hope that you will do the right thing by taking action in favor of the people who have put trust in your brand.
As an FCP user since FCP2, I will not pay a subscription for FCPX on the iPad. I think that Apple should consider making the software available to all current FCP users free, or a token one-off payment. I will not use any subscription-based softwares (this is THE distinction between Apple and Adobe, none of whose softwares I use any more, for this reason). I will post this in the FCP Feedback window, too.
Tom,
For you, how was that article helpful, with respect to what others have mentioned here? Oliver's comments do not change people's dislike of the subscription model, and the limited connectivity of the iPad limits it for any serious work (assuming people would prefer to work on an iPad, rather than on a laptop or other computer; I would not). And I did post my comment above in a briefer form on the FCP "Feedback" site, via FCPX, following Meg's suggestion.
His view on Apple going to a subscription service seems well thought out based on what he perceives as FCP’s primary user base. The prospect of Mac FCP version 10.7 going to a subscription has also been raised.
I've been using Auria as a full blown DAW on iPads for YEARS and it never required a top of the line model. Other non-subscription NLEs that are more pro feature rich already exist on the iPad. But Apple, if you pay attention to the visuals, is targeting the YouTuber market, the influencers. I don't care what you say, videos full of jump cuts are not professional editing. Influencers are not at the level of TV broadcast or feature film editors. But Apple seems to make it very clear now, that is not their market. Even this forum has been pulled from a "Pro Apps" section and lumped together with a the other applications and services Apple puts out. The hardware may be somewhat impressive these days, but the software, including macOS, is becoming more and more lackluster. And subscriptions be damed.
Before anyone wants to rag on PremierPro or Avid, bare in mind those developers continue to win innovation awards that Apple no longer ever gets nominated for.
I was wondering if getting stuff in and out of an iPad NLE will widen its abilities to use Apple Handoff apps like Airdrop, iCloud etc.
Using hard drives and Memory Cards is a bit harder. Maybe some new dongley gadget is in the wind.
Right now I’m not sold on iPad FCPro whether I buy or subscribe.
My current equipment serves my needs. 🤠👍

100% agree with Jimmylx. As I now reach retirement age I am even more focused on eliminating subscriptions, but still want to pursue my hobbies using tools I know. Instead I find my self now having to edit with FCP on my Mac. Then jump to LumaFusion on my iPad. I WILL NOT BUY THE IPAD SUBSCRIPTION, even though it’s my primary workflow tool. It’s the Silicon Valley SaaS model/mindset, that does not add any continued value, but with SaaS they can sit on their laurels between the next value add in upgrade, just poking through security fix releases that they should have more robustly handled in the first place. I’ll pay for feature upgrades 1 time and use it until the next choice of upgrade comes along. At some point we will all shift back to a traditional license model and the app world will thin based on demand and supply meritocracy.
Oliver’s article was well thought out and helpful.

Let's see what happens.
Let's not forget Aperture, either.
I wonder if the ability to export from an external drive will be added later?
