If the work was actually done by an authorized service provider and you're seeing that message, take it back to them. They didn't do it right or the battery they used is faulty.
Note that ONLY authorized service providers have the tools necessary to properly register the replacement battery.

You're right, I did. I understand that Apple is serialising their batteries, and any new battery won't have the original battery's serial so the new software update (ugh)...displays the fact its not the same as the original, doesn't recognise it. it's a pain though as you'll always have the warning in your settings, ad nauseum... trouble is, you won't be able to distinguish if its a non-Apple battery, faulty or incorrectly fitted...
The simple fact of the matter is that you have rendered your phone untouchable by Apple.
Apple does not sell iPhone parts (*)
You can't buy a genuine Apple battery to install yourself, and even if you could, the act of opening up the phone makes your phone untouchable.
*The exception to this is that Apple does have a self repair program for the iPhone 12, 13, and 14 models that allow you to purchase batteries and/or screens and rent the tools to replace them. The only problem with that is that it will cost you significantly more to do so than it would to just have Apple perform the replacement to begin with.
Hi Kiwibyrd,
You might have replaced the battery inside your iPhone. What this means, is that your iPhone cannot distinguish whether if the replaced battery is “Apple” or not.
If you’ve recently sent in your device for a repair of the battery, then that might be the case.
Hope this helps!

Don't be surprised if Apple refuses to service it now that it's been tampered with.
It's a bit late, but no authorized service provider would sell you parts or advise you to replace the battery yourself.
Further to this, I called Apple Support, and have made an appt to have the battery checked and replaced if necessary at an official Apple service centre in Preston. It appears my service agent, quite a well-known company, is acting independently! I will update if anyone is interested, watch this space...
Hi Will,
Yes, that's right. But the problem started before the new replacement battery. I bought the iPhone brand new online from a retailer, it had no error message on the battery. The phone started switching off automatically, and I had to force a restart. The retailer wanted me to send the phone back, but I was not inclined to do that, as I had lost another model of phone in the post, which never turned up. So I found an Apple repair business near me online, they said there is a known problem with the battery of my phone, SE2022 3rd gen, and it could be replaced. This battery gave an error message of not being recognised. I contacted the Apple repairer, who had replaced the battery, and he admitted it was a 3rd party battery he had fitted! So I contacted Apple Support online, who arranged for my phone to be checked and a genuine battery fitted at one of their official stores. All went well after that for 6 days, when the phone began to switch off spontaneously again. Now, I'm waiting for a callback from Apple Support in Cork, Ireland, it was arranged for 8am. I received the call this morning..only for an automatic voice to tell me they were closed...! So far, I'm not at all impressed with Apple. They are polite and try to be helpful, but have not been able to reassure me what the problem is with my phone, now only 2 months old. They seem to have no idea, but agree it is a known problem. Infuriating is not the word for it. I love the new SE, it is ideal for how I use it, but it looks like I will have no choice but to return it to the original retailer. Who knows whether I will even get a refund, even though it now has a genuine Apple battery. Has anyone else come up with this problem with Apple phones?
Hi Tim,
Apple did replace the battery, without any recrimination whatsoever. There are plenty of approved Apple trained repairers now, so they won't discriminate over a genuine mistake. They will always change any part for a genuine one for you, and now if you can set up a business and prove you are proficient to repair Apple phones and devices, Apple will sell you the necessary equipment. I don't necessarily believe this is a good idea, as it is left open for dodgy practicing, but I can see why it is being rolled out, due to the demand for Apple servicing.
Hi thanks for your reply. I didn't replace the battery myself, but through an authorised Apple repair agent, who gave me the information above.
