That would be why, then. Apple Silicon (M1/M2 chips) computers aren't compatible with Boot Camp. If you need Windows, your best options are a virtualization program like Parallels (or just buying a Windows computer).

Assuming you have not hosed your macOS install…
Buy and install Parallels on macOS. Read and follow the Parallels instructions for Windows.
If you somehow managed to get into Boot Camp here or otherwise added a Boot Camp partition (which AFAIK is not easy to do), remove the partition, and revert the allocated space to macOS. Or factory reset the Mac and re-install macOS.

Or sell this Apple silicon Mac, and get an Intel Mac or some other Intel x86-64 PC.

MacBook Air 2020 was available in two models, one with Intel x86 processor and which can use Boot Camp, and one with Apple silicon M1 processor, which is not compatible with Boot Camp. Which do you have?

Boot Camp makes a Mac “look” (to the Microsoft software) like an Intel x86-64 PC.
Parallels is an app that makes a Mac look like an Intel x86-64 PC on an Intel Mac, or as an Arm PC on Apple silicon M1 and M2.
Here, you need the Parallels hypervisor and an Arm version of Windows. Not the Intel x86-64 version of Windows.
Microsoft only supports Windows Arm on Apple silicon. Not on Windows Intel. Microsoft only supports booting Windows Arm on Apple silicon using the parallels Hypervisor. Not natively.
The hypervisor—or virtual environment—here runs Windows Arm as an app within macOS. Parallels can run other operating systems on Apple silicon, as well/
There is no supported (and no purchasable) means to boot Windows Arm natively on Apple silicon. No Windows Arm booting via Boot Camp or analogous.
Windows Arm only boots as a guest of the Parallels hypervisor, running on macOS.
It is possible to boot Windows Intel on a hypervisor that both virtualizes and emulates; on a hypervisor such as UTM. This is slower, not supported by Microsoft, and not something that can be officially purchased from Microsoft.
You’ll probably either want to buy a Windows Intel x86-64 laptop or Intel Mac, or ask Microsoft to allow Windows Arm to boot without Parallels or other hypervisor; to boot directly and natively on Apple silicon, using Boot Camp or some analog. But to use this configuration, you will need both Windows Arm and Parallels.

PS: AFAIK, there’s no TPM support provided in Boot Camp, which means Windows 11 requires a hypervisor with TPM emulation support. Windows 11 won’t boot natively on Mac (Intel or Arm) via Boot Camp, as Boot Camp does not presently present the required TPM hardware, as Macs don’t have the required TPM hardware. Which means Windows 10 on Intel via Boot Camp or hypervisor, or Windows 11 Arm via Parallels.

You have not provided enough information and context. Boot Camp Assistant does not convert your Mac to Windows. It creates a partition onto which Windows is installed. At what point in the process do you get the error? What model/year Mac? What operating system version? How much space are you allocating for the Boot Camp partition?
