How "Reduce loud sounds" actually works?

I saw this Reddit post and would like Apple to confirm, if the feature works like that


If you turn it up louder, it will raise the quietest part up, but squish the loudest part down more and more as it reaches max volume so that thing still seem louder, because they are, but they’re more compressed, so they don’t sound like they’re changing in volume so much. Average gets louder, but the max volume peaks at the same input level.

Yes, it works like that (it turns on a compressor).


It also changes what songs sound like, by adding compression.


It appears to have a fast attack, and extremely slow release.


I recently found out it was on and was making my songs sound better / worse.


It can often lead to aggressive "ducking" effects.


It makes the soft parts louder.


I would be interested to know its parameters though.
