Vertical Artifacts on display, external monitor not affected.

When I open the macbook (A2141) the screen is ok at certain acute angles but if opened too far it corrupts to a rash of vertical lines of multi-coloured artifacts. If I gradually close the lid, there is a point at which it clears up but opening it again produces the same error. I've heard of a similar issue but involving the backlight on the 16" macbook pro's so this sounds like the same problem. Is there a fix for this, covered by a similar recall of affected machines? This has the potential to be a major cost otherwise.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.2

Most Vertical artifacts and all issues that follow display opening angle tend to be problems with the display module itself.

These problems are likely covered under the 1-year warranty, and would be covered by AppleCare PLUS with a US$100 co-pay.

There are no subassemblies or replacement cables. Out of pocket replacement costs are in the neighborhood or US$800 for the 16-in version.

If you made the decision to NOT pay for the extended warranty, you made a decision to bear the cost of repairs during the extended warranty period yourself.

When facing a problem later, the correct cost calculation is:

Example Total retail cost of repair: US$800

less Example amount you saved US$380

by NOT purchasing a service agreement

Effective incremental cost: US$420

PLUS the amount you saved by not buying the Service contract, which now must be spent as well.

It’s a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro, definitely out of warranty whichever way you play it.

It’s really not that helpful just pointing out there is an extended warranty which could have been purchased. The laptop was purchased used in 2022, so no warranty would be available.

I realise there may be no option but to purchase a replacement, and realise the cost, hence asking if Apple had recognised/admitted this as a design flaw and were willing to fix it.
