icloud.com advanced data protection not alerting trusted devices for access?

I have Advanced Data Protection turned on for my iCloud account, along with Access iCloud Data on the Web.

When I login to iCloud.com from a trusted (e.g. my MacBook Pro) and try to access one of the protected apps (Notes, for example), iCloud.com will send a notification to my trusted devices (the one I'm on and my phone, for example).

If I login to iCloud.com from any other device (e.g. my Windows PC) and try to access one of the protected apps, iCloud.com shows the "Your device is giving iCloud.com temporary access to display your data." message briefly, then switches to "Your device hasn’t given access to display your data. Check that it is on and connected to the internet." without notifying any of my trusted devices (which are powered on and connected to the internet).

Any ideas why this might be happening and how to fix it?

You won’t believe me when I say this but I just got off a phone call with apple support about the issue about 2 hours before you commented this. It was a 1 hour long call with no solution. I just saw your comment and checked mine and it’s working!

This is even more surprising to me because I turned on ADP like 3 days ago so as soon as I had the issue, Apple fixed it lmao. What a coincidence!

Nope. This broke before I upgraded from iOS16 to 17.1.2 (I skipped earlier 17 release since there was no security issue). I had ADP enabled. I *do* get request on phone to allow temp access for PC (which I grant). The PC Screen initially says "getting access" before it changes to:

iCloud Photos

Can’t Display Your Photos

Your device hasn’t given access to display your photos. Check that it is on and connected to the internet.

Having the same issue. Was hoping it would eventually start working again so I waited. I ended up getting an alert on my phone telling me I need to create a recovery code as it apparently had lost the old one. Not exactly the most inspiring. Not sure I could trust ADP anymore after this. Had I lost my phone at the wrong time I would have lost everything.

Mine is working now but I don't have much confidence in the future. According to this thread the same issue happened back in June. I am not storing my important photos and files in a cloud environment that appears to have user access issues this often and especially when an encryption layer is involved (ADP). The iCloud platform sounds really messy on the backend and I don't want my important photos and files sitting on this platform. I pay for a Cloud+ subscription solely for the custom e-mail domain features/Mail service and I also use iCloud for Contacts, Notes and Calendar synchronization. I will not be storing any other data in iCloud until Apple gets better at maintaining iCloud. It's really sad that Apple is operating this way.

Still broken.

Failing on a Macbook Air M2, in Chrome, Edge, and Safari.

Get all the prompts and approve them on my iphone. Get the same error "Your device has not given access to display your files and documents. Check that it is on and connected to the internet." even though my phone shows an alert saying access has been provided until I log out.
