Having trouble syncing the complete library while transferring from Windows to Mac - iTunes to Apple Music

Hi! I've had issues transferring my iTunes library from my PC to my new Macbook in Apple Music. My approach was to consolidate the complete library to an external disk, copy it on to my harddrive localy on the mac, and import it back in by option+clicking Music. I did this by importing the libraryand relocating the .itl file. But like the title mentions, a problem arises. There are over 3800 files missing which have been marked with an exclamation mark. I can find the files in finder, but they can't be relocated automatically. Although something has happened with the file after migrating the library.

If you want me to try to provide specific advice please post back the following details:
1. The location of the media folder under iTunes|Music > Preferences > Advanced
2. The location of a sample missing track shown under Song Info > File > Location that begins file://
3. The true path to the file whose details you gave in 2

  1. /Macintosh HD/Users/jimkvamme/Music/iTunes/ITunes Media
  2. file:///Users/jimkvamme/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Various Artists/VH1 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the/05 Tainted Love 1.mp3
  3. /Users/jimkvamme/Music/iTunes/ITunes Media/Music/Various Artists/VH1 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the/05 Tainted Love.mp3

This is one sample of thousands.

So I suppose a commonality across the missing files is that the filename ends with a digit. The filenames are missing a number at the end of the filename. In many (most, if not all) cases specifically "1".

Is there a quick way to fix this? Perhaps tweak the FixLinks script somehow?

I still have access to my old library. I'm attempting to copy the files one more time to a new folder on my external drive. This time without consolidating the complete library; just manually copying it over to my external. I'm hoping to merge the two libraries somehow (the one that's consolidated and the one that's just copied), but I'm not 100% sure how to avoid duplicating the entire library or only moving the files that are missing. The library has been organised according to iTunes' standard through an artist/album/songs structure.

It's very important that I retain all the metadata from the files in the library, including date added etc.

Please help! Thank you.

Hi Jim,

The trailing 1s can be the result of duplicate files and a subsequent clean-up. If you go back to the original library and turn Keep organized off and back on again all the trailing digits should be removed except where that would clash with another file that has the same name. You will likely find that this updated library will then transfer more easily to your Mac. The answers you gave able suggest that the library you transfered was connected to a file with a trailing 1 but that wasn't matched by the media folder that you copied over. The FindTracks script can reconnect tracks with or without trailing 1s or 2s provided they are otherwise in the expected layout.
