Unwanted skunk emoji

The skunk emoji keeps appearing in place of my granddaughters first name when I text her from my iPhone or iPad. I have edited her contact info but it still appears when I text her. How can I get rid of it - I have NEVER used this emoji before & neither has she. Help!

First, your device passcode has likely become known to the local little people. This is Bad.

Second, for the granddaughter’s name substitution, you will want to check your settings:

… Settings > General > Keyboards > Text Replacement.

When you look there, I suspect you will find one of the local little people has added a text replacement there for that name.

On current software, you can use the Edit button to remove that text translation. (I’m not sure how far back that button goes, as your iPad Air 2 is both older, and not updated to its most current. An iPad Air 2nd gen should be running iPadOS 15, and not iPadOS 13 as shown in the footer here.)

Here is how to update to iPadOS 15, and which is the final version for iPad Air 2nd gen

Here is how to set or change a passcode:

Allowing the little people to use an iPad can end Very Badly for the data. Several different folks I know well allowed that to happen, and lost precious photos and other important data.

No. I’ve checked that. It is a mystery for sure & I’ve never knowingly used the skunk emoji. There must be gremlins somewhere!

Okay. If it’s somehow gotten stuck in autocorrupt, err, autocorrect,

Settings  > General > Reset > and select Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

That will reset substitutions, and reset autocorrupt, err, autocorrect.

Bigger gremlins, too, eh?

Do you see the name listed as a text replacement at:

Settings > General > Keyboards > Text Replacement.

If so, and it should show a translation as 🦨 based in your description, then tap the Edit button in the lower left of that pane, then tap the red 🔴 delete icon next to the name in the text replacement, and then tap delete to confirm.
