Hello netheadhunter,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. We understand how important it is to be heard when using your AirPods for phone calls. We also noticed that you're already coming from the following resource here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

If resetting your AirPods didn't help, we can still recommend a couple of more steps to help troubleshoot this issue. Follow the steps below:

1.) Clean your AirPods and makes sure there isn't any debris on them: How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods - Apple Support

2.) You can test your AirPods on another device. This is a great way to further isolate this issue.

3.) If you're using an iPone with your AirPods, make sure your iPhone is fully updated as well. This can help sort out unique issues. Just in case, this link can guide you through the update process: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

1.)Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2.)Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3.)Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4.) If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5.) Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do: If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support

We hope these steps help you. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
