Hi Barb23:

I just recently bought a beautiful refurbished 2019 16inch MBP to replace my 2011 MBP whose time had come for replacement. So before I set up migration assistant I double checked into the procedure and saw that I could use both wireless and wired (Ethernet) connection. So I purchased an Ethernet to USB-C adapter expecting to speed up the migration. Well after connecting the cable and initiating migration assistant I saw that the only available option was my wi fi network so I decided to take that route, well it froze just like your situation and I had to stop the migration.

After looking into several articles I came across of all people a windows expert that went through all of the procedures that you should check regarding wifi and networking and here's what I learned:

1) turn of wifi on both computers.

2) hook up your Ethernet cable between both computers.

3) Go into network preferences and disable wi fi on both computers'

4) Go into network preferences and look to ensure that the ethernet connection is showing.

After I made those settings changes, I opened up migration assistant on both computers and both showed the ethernet connection and away I went, enjoying 114 MB/s connection which a transfer time of less than 2 hours for 1.23 TB of data.

For some reason all of the articles failed to mention that procedure leaving you to believe that both computers would automatically recognize the ethernet connection. IMHO, for what I can tell wireless seems to take precedence over ethernet and must be disabled to effect that change.

Judging from the time of your post, I'm about a year late in coming across your post but you file this away for future reference.
