How to properly turn off an iMac when moving houses?

Hello, I wanted to know how to properly turn off a iMac when moving houses? I heard many scary rumors that software or computer can get damaged when unplugging and plugging.

Thanks!

Choose Shut Down from the Apple menu or elsewhere.

Save, then Shut Down:

If you just unplug it, then drafts may not be saved. So, save open files, and then close the apps. Once closed, then perform the shutdown.

This old issue with moving computers was shock to the mechanical hard drive and sometimes the optical drive. If this is the 24-inch iMac running macOS 11.6 as shown in your equipment profile, yours has no optical drive and the storage is solid-state, not mechanical. Should be fine.

If you have the original box and packing materials, that is the best transport container.

How long do you expect the computer to be unplugged during the move?
