importing photos from iPhone to Mac - not all are coming across

I have 14978 photos and 1822 movies on my iPhone, I have just bought my Mac and I have synced my phone. but only 4822 photos and 136 movies have come across. how do I get them all onto my Mac? if on my phone I going general / settings / iCloud / and under apps using iCloud. this is off, If I change to on, and sync to iPhone I get a warning, saying syncing via Finder is not supported when iCloud Photos is turned on, 12558 photos and videos will be removed. this about the amount that is missing, has this got something to do with it. I don't care for the iCloud, I just want all of my photos on my Mac so I can organise them here. thanks to anyone who can help. Sallee

I am a bit confused. Your title says "Import" and in the body of the post, you are talking about "Syncing".

They are not the same.

Import to your Mac

Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac with a USB cable. Open the Photos app on your computer. The Photos app shows an Import screen with all the photos and videos that are on your connected device. If the Import screen doesn't automatically appear, click the device's name in the Photos sidebar.

Thank you for your reply, I’m not sure what the word should be. I just want all of my photos that are on my phone to be on my Mac. I have already used the USB cable connecting them both and clicked on my devise name. It has brought 4000 odd photos over, but there are still another 12000 photos on my phone, that are not showing on my Mac. I can’t work out how to get them on my Mac.
