Why Omnipod Insulin pump not work with Apple products?

I am type 1 diabetic on a Omnipod insulin pump, prescribed by my endocrinologist. She suggests getting a android device instead of my iPhones because Apple products don’t work with my Omnipod insulin pump system. Seems strange my doctor would have any say in what type of phone I use, but it makes sense having one that works with my insulin pump and my cgm sensor like android devices are able to. I am forced to bring two phone sized devices instead of one if I switch to android format. Thanks for any knowledge on Apple making their own insulin pump to only sell to Mac users to settle the score or maybe a way of us not having to switch phones to help control our diabetes.

Sorry, but that is not at all how it works.

Apple does not pay money to the developers to use their product. It is up to Omnipod to develope software that runs on Apple's iOS operating system.

Your claws? Apple is not here, this is a user to user forum.

The people you need to be asking is the manufactures of your insulin pump, they are responsible for their product and any software that's needed to use it. This has absolutely nothing to do with Apple.

You are mistaken. The Omnipod insulin pump (which I use) can be controlled by an android phone, but not an iPhone. Consequently, iPhone users (like me) need to carry a separate handheld device to control our Omnipod pump. Omnipod issued a press release last October that said the FDA has approved the pump for use with the iPhone, but nothing has happened since then.

Couldn’t be more wrong .. Apple came out first to use with OMNIPOD . As a matter of fact I used to be a long time Android user and switched to Apple so I could be able to use certain apps or devices like an Apple Watch . So I’m not sure why your dr would tell you to buy an Android .. they both have apps but Apple leads the way for OMNIPOD and DEXCOM . And not sure what you mean by Apple making their own insulin pump.. perhaps you mean apps, and Apple , Google , Mac have nothing to do with making an app, that is usually third party people that make the apps. Your post is about a year old so hopefully you have what you need now

Probably you are using third-party apps and a third-party device.

If you are experiencing any difficulty with third-party apps or a specific website or a product then please contact the app developer or site publisher/host or the manufacturer directly. Here is how

  • To contact an App developer --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
  • To contact a web publisher —> Scroll Down to the bottom of the web page. You will find: Contact Us, Help Center, Support, Terms of use, etc.
  • To contact the Manufacturer --> Please read the manual that may have come along with the product.

My pump is obviously developed by some form of ibm/android mediocrity. I figured that Apple has not paid the money to be able to use the Omnipod system. When I have issues with my pump they tell me to turn it on and off. Like a pc type computer from the 90s. Figured that Apple would pay to play since there are millions of type 1 diabetics choosing a new phone system that works with Omnipod insulin pumps. Big percentage of type 1 diabetics are getting this same issue. Why use two phone when one android does what 1 iPhone can not? It’s ok and lovely new knowledge but my doctor telling me to switch phones to make diabetic life easier by using a non Apple product seems crazy. But I will do my best to find a insulin pump in the future that has the ability to talk to any type of phone. I will have to try a iPhone again when they get the technology available. That’s why I suggested a way of making money on it so your claws would be more likely to develop a useable system for using insulin pumps with Apple products. Crazy world where my doctor has any credence in what phone I use.
