Apps don’t truly delete

Why is it that when I delete an app from my phone, it only takes a split second to reinstall the app from the App Store? It takes around 45 seconds to install an app I’ve never installed on this device. I already know the answer…. It’s because they don’t truly leave my phone. What is the RIGHT way to delete an app from my iPhone 14 Pro (PRO is a ridiculous name for a device I have just as little control over as an SE). I have been Android since the dawn of the modern day smart phone. This iPhone is just about as dumb as my Motorola flip phone. This is my first (last) iPhone. I’ve had iOS for 10 months, and I’ve regretted the switch for 9 months.

It does not mean it is ready to be installed. It means that you have previously purchased it, so you won’t have to pay for it again.

Should it take the nominal 45 seconds to install (since it’s not in your phone anymore), or should it take a split second (because it never left your phone in the first place)???

Meaningless test; why should it take any specific amount of time? Delete an app. Go to the App Library (the last page of the Home screen). Search for the app. If it doesn’t appear when you search or appear on the alphabetical list it has been deleted, regardless of how long it takes to download.

Screen Time is a catch-all, not just for parental controls.

Did you follow the path I posted? To be clear:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Screen Time
  • Do you see “Turn on Screen Time”?
  • If you don’t, follow the instructions I posted, or scroll down and turn off Screen Time.

If it was off, delete an app that can be deleted, after reviewing this guidance→Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 12, iOS 13, or iPadOS device or Apple Watch - Apple Support

  • Hold your finger on the app until you see a floating menu
  • Tap Remove App
  • Tap Delete App (NOT Remove from Home Screen)

Now go to the App Store and search for the app. Does it show a download icon? If so it has been deleted. If it has an Open button it has not been deleted.

Troubleshooting App Deletion:

So what's the App? Note that builtin apps (i.e. Settings) cannot be deleted. Only third-party ones can.

Every single app I’ve ever doesn’t truly delete. Have you ever deleted an app from your phone? Please don’t respond with advice if you haven’t. If you have, should you ever go back to look at that (or similar apps), there is a cloud with a down arrow. Based on Personal Experience:

Sure, I've deleted apps from my iPhone. Unlike a computer, you don't need an uninstaller. So, contact the Developer, if you need upfront instructions on how to do so. Perhaps you downloaded it, and it got corrupt while downloading it from loss of power.
