On my MacBook I used to be able to hold the “shift” and “command” keys and then click on the beginning of a word and it would select just that word, but now it selects the entire line for some reason. Can someone tell me how to get back the word only select? Thank you.

You can double-click on a single word to just select it. On a U.S. keyboard using Apple's Pages v13, or Word 16.72, you can also place the cursor at the beginning of a word and then press option+shift+right-arrow to select just that word.
