Wonky Text Select on MacBook

On my MacBook I used to be able to hold the “shift” and “command” keys and then click on the beginning of a word and it would select just that word, but now it selects the entire line for some reason. Can someone tell me how to get back the word only select? Thank you.

Option key acting abnormal on MacBook Hello! I use to use my left option key very often to skip over words to get where I needed to be fast, or delete entire words. However the behavior of this key has changed and I don't know what caused it. Instead of just jumping through words, it jumps and highlights them. Additionally, if I hold option+delete it will not delete the word. Is there any way I can fix this?

process of keywording is very buggy and glitches often - how to make it go more smooth While trying to quickly type keywords there is something that is slowing me down. It takes sometime up to 1 or 2 seconds for the system to register and accept a keyword. Then when I start typing another keyword and about half way through typing the next keyword the system glitches, erases what I have typed and then begins halfway through the word I have just typed. For example - I will start typing the keyword "brick wall" - the system will glitch when I hit the letter c and erase all I have typed and them I will end up with the key word "k wall" Why is this happening? and how can I stop this from happening. It is really interrupting my flow. This is in Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.1 - but has been happening for years over previous OS as well

You can double-click on a single word to just select it. On a U.S. keyboard using Apple's Pages v13, or Word 16.72, you can also place the cursor at the beginning of a word and then press option+shift+right-arrow to select just that word.
