Click on this link to read how to use external monitors with your Mac --> Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support

On Mac computers with Apple silicon [M1], you can connect up to 4 displays depending on the chip in your Mac. To find out which chip your Mac has, choose Apple menu  > About This Mac.

If you are using an older model,:- Identify your MacBook Pro model - Apple Support - Then click on the technical specifications link for the MBP you have.
