Lost all settings after reboot (not restore)

Man, was this frustrating. I needed to reboot my iPhone 4 today due it acting unusually sluggish, and after I did so, it acted as though it was a brand new phone, showing me the message about editing the home screen icons when it turned back on. In addition, certain settings were lost, including push notifications, wallpaper, and I think a few others. Mail and calendar accounts stayed, though contacts were messed up (e.g., some records merged for some reason). Very bizarre.

While I'm okay because I have a recent backup, this causes me some concern down the road. What if I don't have a recent backup? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Again, in a nutshell, rebooting caused my phone's settings to reset, and I lost some crucial items, such as pictures and contacts. I'm scared that this will happen again, and I won't be so lucky as to have a recent backup. On top of that, restoring to the MOST recent backup was no good either, since it just restored the incorrect settings.

It is the firmware, folks. I loaded 4.2.1 on my 3GS. One day I needed to do a hard reset. After the phone came back to the main screen, everything, including Apps and settings had reverted back to defaults. It was a huge pain to move my apps around again.

I'm on an iPhone 4 now. I'm actually afraid to do another hard reset now. Have any of you called Apple Tech Support about this? I've called them so much here lately about this firmware that I'm fed up. Done with the phone calls and restores.

I have an iPhone 4 I've had since it's release... Running 4.3. I had been told several months back by an Apple Care rep that it was good to do a hard reset (holding down the lock and home buttons until the Apple symbol appeared) every few weeks. This is the first time I had done it since 4.2 came out though (but again, I'm on 4.3 now).
So I first noticed my friend's picture was messed up when he called... Then I noticed the main ringtone was back to default... And my battery percentage is now gone as well.

Some unrelated (possibly) things: I just got an iPad 2 and it is synced using the same account with the same computer. Ever since getting the iPad 2 every time I get a new app on one of the devices it will appear on the other device after I sync it...I also had an app I had deleted from my iPhone reappear after syncing. I don't know if that's normal or not.

The main reason I'm writing is that since 4.3 has come out and most of you posted about this before it coming out... I wanted to document it was still a problem.

Lastly... My phone had not frozen, But it was locked when I did the reset. Hope this helps

I have a iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1. I have seen similar behavior, such as Battery Percentage and Ring Tone resets, after hard resets (holding power and home until apple logo appears on startup screen). I have seen this on previous iOS and I think it used to happen on my iPhone 4 as well. Mostly it is just annoying, since all of my data and important settings are retained.

This just happend to me, similar situation with Mofro_;

- iPhone4S

- IOS 5.0.1

After a hard reset (simutaneously holding the home button & the sleep/wake button until the apple logo appears)

- I recieved a welcome message for Siri,

- the battery % indicator was missing

- all ringtones / message tones were reset to default, including custom ones assigned to contacts.

- use data reset

There was no data loss, all music, photo, apps were there.

I recall this happening before on my iphone 4, but it has not happened in a while & only recently when I had to hard reset my iphone 4S due to app crashing (Viddy app).

Could this be caused by bugs in some apps?

Unfortunately for me I just experienced the loss of all my date after reboot. I am running IOS 5.0.1 on an Iphone 4. I simply just didn’t want to be bothered one evening so I shut my phone off and placed on the charger. When I turned the phone on in the morning I only received the splash screen walking me through the set up of the phone. Unfortunately I was in the middle of a pc upgrade so I didn’t have a recent backup. I did connect the phone to a new PC and the Pictures were able to be extracted but the phone had to be restored. I lost my notes, contact, calendar, and all settings including email for personal and corporate use. Any ideas what could of caused this issue?

This is so frustrating. I have an iPhone 4S and did not have this issue with iOS 5.0.1. All of a sudden, with iOS 5.1, I have this issue. This should not be happening. I'm getting all kinds of welcome messages every time I do a hard reset. Plus, quite a few settings are changing (battery %, ring tones, etc.)

Has anyone figured out a fix yet?

iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3 and same issue - apps were slow the other day so I did the hold power and home until restart. I had closed all apps, I do that several times each day usually. Since restarting I have been prompted by apple apps and other apps for credentials as if I had never used the apps on this device. Also, many apps open with a dialogue box which says "Connect to iTunes to Use Push Notifications - OK" a um, yeah, I did that when I got the app, many over a year ago... Basically, I get no notifications and have to log into my apps now. I keep my iOS and apps up to date, why does apple punish us? It's beginning to run a lot like windows... Is this an iCloud issue?
