Pages app slow to open

Opening a document that was created in Pages and stored in My Documents takes up to a minute. I double click on the document I want to open and nothing happens. I double click on it again, and it shows two arrows, then ....wait, wait, wait.... then it shows a pop up window saying "opening document".... wait, wait, wait, wait.... eventually it opens.

I've seen posts that say some part of my processor or memory might be incompatible with Monterey, but none of the letters and numbers referenced in those posts match the information (above) in About This Mac.

I have automatic updates on, and the slow-opening problem has persisted over more than one update to Pages.

Thank you for your help.

Last night I got up in the middle of the night with a great idea, and by the time Pages opened, the idea had faded. Frustrating.

If you have Monterey 12.3 or later, ensure that you have updated Pages to v13.

That 8 GB RAM is not sufficiently bountiful for running Monterey with other opened applications, or while Spotlight is swarming your CPU cores with md_worker processes while indexing the drive. I have a new M2 Mac mini Pro with 32 GB of RAM and Pages v13 is slow to launch with no other applications running. The bigger the document, the worse it gets too.

If you have left other large applications open, I recommend closing them and using Pages alone.

Thanks, VikingOSX.

I do have Pages v.13. I understand your perspective to be that there isn't anything I can do except close everything else when I want to use Pages, or develop more patience, or leave a document open on the desktop which I can use for quick access. Sounds like much less than I usually expect from Apple products.

FWIW I also have a MacBookPro with a 2.3 GHz intel core i5 processor running Mojave and 8GB ram, which opens the exact same document faster than my iMac with Monterrey.

Harumph. Grumpy about it, but grateful for your answer.

For comparisons sake, Mojave was several Gigabytes smaller than Monterey and Ventura with less appetite for RAM and far fewer System processes competing for the CPU. Pages running on Mojave was more fleet-footed than Pages v13. Operating systems and applications evolve to place higher demands on available resources — frequently with features and services that the average user does not require.
