Accessory may not be supported error

I got the Accessory may not be supported error and clicked dismiss. The charger cord works in other ports but not the USB port in my car. I've tried other cords in my car and they work so I know it isn't the port. Is there any other fix to correct this?

If you see an ‘Accessory may not be supported’ alert, click here --> - If an 'Accessory may not be supported alert' appears on your Apple device - Apple Support

I don't know if this is the reason but some cords transmit both power and data. Others transmit only power. I wonder if the device is picking up on this one not having a data component (which doesn't matter for charging alone) and thinks something is wrong?
