Music Playback Problems in Car Via USB Connection After iOS 16.4.1 Update

I held off for as long as I could, but I got tired of my perfectly functioning iPhone 12 insisting that I update to the latest iOS 16.4.1. Shortly after updating last night, I got another notification that a more recent update, iOS 16.4.1 (a), was available and recommended. I figured since I already did the larger update, I might as well complete the process with the presumably smaller iOS 16.4.1 (a) update.

This morning when I got into my 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo to drive to work, I connected my iPhone 12 to the infotainment center via USB as per usual. That's when I noticed trouble.

After tinkering with some settings, restarting my iPhone 12 multiple times, and unplugging and plugging in my car's USB cable, here's what I concluded:

  1. After the iOS 16.4.1 update, I can no longer shuffle all the songs stored locally on my iPhone 12 through the infotainment center of my car. The shuffle function activates, but all attempts to control the music with the infotainment center (song/track advance button), such as skipping a song, triggers an error and my iPhone 12 suddenly disconnects from my car.
  2. Thankfully, I can use my car's infotainment menu buttons to select an album on my iPhone 12 and play the songs in sequence, but trying to skip a song is hit or miss.
  3. Only sometimes can I use my iPhone 12 to scroll through the available albums on it and select one to play through my car.
  4. In all the above, when connected to my car via USB, the Music app interface sporadically freezes on my iPhone 12 and fails to function. When that happens, my car receives an error message and my iPhone 12 disconnects.

None of these problems existed prior to updating my iPhone 12 to iOS 16.4.1. And nothing about my car, nor the USB cable I use, changed since updating my iPhone 12. It's literally been the difference between last night and this morning. So, if everything worked before the update, it would stand to reason that everything should work after the update. It doesn't. This leads me to believe the problem lies with the iOS 16.4.1 update. And, judging from a quick Google search, I'm not the only iPhone user having issues with the Music app and the latest update in terms of car playback.

Please address my above concerns, Apple. You broke something that wasn't previously broken.
