Why is mdsync requesting to use my camera?

I got a notification from a monitoring app that mdsync was trying to use my webcam on my MacBook Air M1 (2022). I continued blocking it from doing so, but like . . . the ****?! Why is a system process such as Spotlight trying to access my camera?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.3

Are you using some third party Camera software...?

old issue, new issue, what changed?

mdsync process is responsible for synchronizing metadata (information about files and folders) between Spotlight and the file system.
