Safari is a web browser, not a search engine. Which search engine you choose depends on your needs and preferences. DuckDuckGo has probably the best reputation for privacy. Why don't you try the same query in each option and see what works better for you?

Somehow, I lost Safari. It is not on one of my eight screens. I looked for it for over an hour now. I can bring it up when I search for it but it does not let me locate it. I would like to restore it to its rightful place. Thank you.

Go to the App Library. It's the last screen to the right. Type "Safari" into the search bar. Press and hold on the Safari icon. Select "Add to Home Screen."

Hi amyah ,

This may clarify your issue :

Safari is a web browser by Apple . 🍎            Search Engine is an application that

It's a computer program used to navigate        searches for & retrieves data . You can

the World Wide Web , by viewing web            choose your preference here :

pages & following hyperlinks .                        Settings > Safari > search engine .

Yelp , Bing , Yahoo , Duck Duck Go ,

Google

can i use safari as my web browser and download a google app for specific websites? I do not want to change safari.

You can have more than one browser on your Mac. Chrome is the browser made by the same company that runs the Google search engine. Brave is another option that is often recommended. Download both and see which one you like.

My iphone doesn't have a Default in General.

To change your search engine, go to Settings>Safari>Search Engine and select your preferred option. Note that you can't select "Safari" as a search engine as there is no such search engine. Your options are Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia (there may also be different options depending on your region).

Do you know if it’s possible and I’m sorry if this is like years ago of this comment but I was curious if I’m able to change the default search engine.

like a custom one that’s not listed on Mac or iOS. I don’t own a MacBook, only an iPhone and there’s no option. I don’t think to change, but I was curious if there’s a way to have Siri use a custom search engine that’s not Google.

There should be an option. Settings>Apps>Safari>Search Engine. The options are Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yardex, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia.

Note that if you're using a version of iOS prior to 18, the path is Settings>Safari>Search Engine.
