Usb camera adapter iOS 16.5 not charging device

Updated to 16.5 today. My 7th gen iPad is used for midi music apps. I have an apple usb lightning camera adapter with charging. The charging port will not work for the iPad anymore. I’ve tried several different apple cables. The adapter will allow charge-through to my iphone, so it’s not a hardware issue. I’ve done several restarts / reboots on the iPad. Still no success. Charging only occurs with direct connection and NOT through the adapter. Any other solutions available?

The Apple Support Community is a user-to-user technical forum. Other than the site Moderators, Apple neither monitor nor participate within the Support Community. Contributors here are all end-users, just like you.

If you wish to bring a matter to Apple’s attention, submission of constructive comments and Bug Reports are invited via Apple Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

If you wish to bring something to Apple’s attention, this would be the most appropriate channel through which to do so.

That's a question I can answer. This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Apple's primary role is to make sure everyone adheres to the Terms of Use. It's a huge job and doesn't leave them time for reading the forum for suggestions of feedback. There are some Apple employees, the Community Specialists, who do answer questions in certain forums which have gone unanswered for more than 12 hours and can be answered primarily with a link to a support article.

If you want Apple to know your thoughts on this matter, this is not the place to ask them. You can use the Support link at the bottom left of every page to read out to them directly. You can also leave feedback on the dedicated Feedback page:

Because initially there was that possibility that lightning to USB-A cable/charger might be the issue, as lightning to USB-C cable and charger seems to fix it. But perhaps it’s because 20W and below it not enough now. USB-A is even 12.5W. Perhaps more than 20W is now required as it has been mentioned elsewhere. To provide enough power to all devices, or because new iPhone 15 will come with USB-C and PD and they made a mistake in the OS update… so try with a more powerful charger or powerbank and you can report results here too.

After the 16.5 update - my 9th generation iPad, which has a Lighting connector, was also not charging via the camera adapter. I have written to Apple support, but so far there has been no reply.

Today I've solved the problem of not charging. I just used a different cord (lighting-type C) and a different charger-adapter (with type C). Now charging also via the camera adapter. The charger and cable, which cost me a total of 13 euros, are not even Apple.

I have the same charging problem with my iPad Air (3rd gen) and the USB Camera Adapter A1619 (firmware 1.0.5).

I tried to use the link suggested by LotusPilot to officially open a bug, and I incredibly found out that the field form used to specify the iPadOS version didn't either list the 16.5 version.

How is it possible? Does anyone really read the issues submitted via this form? Does Apple really care about user's feedback?

As is, with iPadOS 16.5, the Apple USB3 Camera Adapter will allow pass-through charging when using a USB-C Power Adapter - but not when using a USB Type-A Power Adapter, regardless of power output (W). The current issue exists with both iPad and iPhone.

USB-C PD (Power Delivery) uses Power Profiles that can operate at higher voltage than USB-A’s 5V.

Anyone experiencing this issues is strongly advised to submit a bug report:

Until resolved, the workaround is to use a USB-C PD Power Adapter with a USB-C to Lightning cable.
