creating new mailbox in Mail doesn't work

(a)When I create a new mailbox (NMB) in Mail (OS 12.6.5) it appears in the list of mailboxes in the chosen location, but (1) Any email moved to NMB simply disappears (2) an email copied to NMB does not appear in it.

(b) I still have the old problem that downloaded maul cannot be displayed for up to several minutes. Rebuilding etc. has no effect

New Mailbox will not show contents.

I created a new mailbox as I have done many times before in Apple Mail. But when I transferred files into the new mailbox, they would not appear in the message pane. A search indicated they still existed somewhere but apparently not in that mailbox. I eventually made the following fix. Select the mailbox. Then select the View > Menu Bar > Filter and disable the Message Filter. The contents of that mailbox will then appear. It seems that the default setting for the Message Filter when creating a new Mailbox was unexpectedly changed to default to enabled. Why I do not know but it sure set me back for a while.

Hi johngar,

Re: "creating new mailbox in Mail doesn't work"

Wondering if updating to Monterey OS 12.6.6 can help.

Else:

If different from the way you created the problem mailbox, you might want to try following Apple's method to see if that works ok for you:

Re: "downloaded mail cannot be displayed for up to several minutes"

You might want to check the setting in Mail > Preferences> General

... eg: you can choose "automatically" for when to check for new messages, so messages will generally appear right away as they arrive.

(NB: May also depend on your settings on your eMail provider's website (eg Yahoo, Gmail etc.)

All the best :-)

Wondering if your Mac has enough memory / storage space (eg: 50 Gb) free for your Mac to operate smoothly.

You may want to send feedback to Apple, to reach those who work behind-the-scenes. They will likely not reply, yet if others are also experiencing similar issues, and Apple gets to see the extent of them, they may be addressed in a future update.

For (1) I have always used the Apple method for creating new mailboxes. It stopped working properly a couple of weeks ago. I will try OX 12.6.6 as soon as I can.

(2) I was not clear in my original statement. The heading, etc. of emails do appear (choosing "automatically" in the settings) but the content of the email will not load until several minutes have passed. THis dealy is also present for posting to pdf and printing.. For emails with the option of opening in a browser, the content appears in the browser immediately.
