Cannot sign into facetime or imessage on macos 10.8.5

Hello all, I have a macbook on macos 10.8.5 that will not sign into imessage or facetime. It gives me an error saying the server encountered an error during registration. I have tried making an app specific password but that does not appear to have changed anything. This specific mac is not updated to the latest software version for concerns about battery life, as its significantly worse on the latest version this mac supports, so id like to keep it on this version.

Not sure, have you tried signing out of iCloud & any other Apple thing you're signed into, then try signing in again?

If you still want to work on it...

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?
