MacBook Air not recognizing iPhone 8 after system updates on both

Just updated the systems on both my MacBook Air (OS 13.4) and my iPhone 8 (iOS 16.5).

Now the MacBook Air does not recognize the iPhone 8. The iPhone recognizes the MacBook Air.

I've restarted both.

Any suggestions?

FYI … I had a conversation with an Apple Support person. After checking various settings on my MacBook Air and iPhone 8, she said everything's fine. Apparently, no longer displaying the iPhone in the Finder sidebar is a normal part of the latest OS and iOS updates. My iPhone is backing up to iCloud once a day. I'm not clear, though, about syncing. I'd like to think that's happening automatically and instantaneously, but I don't know. If the backup is only once a day, maybe that's all there is.
