My iPhone is deleting saved contacts! Please help

Your best hope for restoring those contacts would be to regain access to that email account and add it back to the iPhone. Once you've done that, ensure that contacts are enabled for that account.

Did you recently remove an account from your iPhone or turn off Contacts in Settings > Contacts > Accounts?

Your phone did not delete them. The missing records were being synced with the account you deleted instead of icloud.

Does this mean we cannot change or delete our email on the iPhone to avoid losing the contacts saved on the phone? That is not user-friendly. Whoever figured it out this way should rethink this. I also lost all of my contacts saved on the phone, collected for a year or more, which is a disaster.
