I take a lot of videos of sporting events, and most of the time what I capture isn’t needed.
I can take very long videos and then edit later, or I can take multiple smaller videos.
I would like to record, but not actually save unless I want to; this would let me record as needed, but only save if the video captured something relevant.
Is this possible?
RealChadwick ~ Actually, the 'Show alert' action is redundant as, when you stop recording, you're given the option to either Retake or Use Video. If you choose Retake, you're then given the option to Cancel – which doesn't save the video:

You should get that option using the shortcut. (It's not clear whether you created it from my screenshot.)
Using the Camera app directly (not the shortcut), when you stop, tap the video's thumbnail at lower left, then tap the Trash icon at lower right and then tap Delete Video.

No, video is not recorded to RAM, then saved once you stop. It is a file being constantly written to until you stop recording.

Haven’t tried the shortcut yet, but I will.
Tapping the thumbnail and then deleting it through there works, but if I am taking many short videos of sporting events it makes it very difficult as I have to break from the action to delete it, switch back, etc.
For the occasional video, it’s fine, but for fast-paced anything, including sports, it’s not.
Unless I am missing something very obvious, I don’t get the option to retake or cancel videos. When I stop, it just saves.
Makes sense, but you would think it would be easier to just say delete it at least.
