Can the sender tell if I’ve listened their voice messages in iMessage if my read receipt is off?

My read receipt has always been off, I want to listen to the sender’s voice messages without them knowing I’ve listened to them.

Vanishing Android read receipt in iPhone message chain I received a read receipt, to my original text, from a person who has an Android. Read receipts keep turning off on own I have an Iphone 14 promax. I have my read receipts manually turned on in the imessage convo's between my husband's iphone and they randonly keep turning themselves off.
