Thanks for all the help. I had to change my pacbell/yahoo password yesterday and suddenly I couldn't log into my mac mail on my 2014 iMac running Catalina 10.15.7. I was able to log in on my phone and newish MacBook pro no problem. I followed the instructions here and was able to log in with the one-time password. Mine was actually called something slightly different, but it was under the email section of my pacbell account. I have had this email forever (thus the pacbell.net designation!) but I may need to think about migrating. Also may be time for a new computer!

Hi Monica,

The same thing happened to me when I had to change my yahoo password back in early Sept. I now have a new MacBook running Ventura and am still not able to access MacMail. Don't run out and buy a new computer, its an issue with Yahoo and its been going on for months. I get weekly updates from my carrier that the issue is still being worked on, to no avail.

Thanks for letting me know! Very disconcerting. This is a long time email that will take a lot to change so the fact that it's not working with new products from apple is crazy. I hope your carrier gives you good news soon. My laptop is running Ventura 13.2 and worked without the workaround that I had to do with my older iMac.

Relax, nothing got broken, its been taken care of. Just follow the below instruction:

Some older, third-party email apps like MacOs Mail require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To

access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. Please do write "

MacOs Mail" when it asks for which "Third Party App" you gonna use this password for? It will show you the

password, copy the shown password. Go back back MacOs Mail, Click on "add account" and select "other mail

account". Write down your yahoo account number and on the password section paste the copied password from

yahoo page. Please select option 1 from below or click the link below and follow the below instruction. Easy pizzy.

Generate an app password

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account Security page.
  2. Click Generate app password or Generate and manage app passwords.
  3. Enter your app's name in the text field.
  4. Click Generate password.
  5. Follow the instructions below the app password.
  6. Click Done.

Use this app password and your email address to sign in to your email app.

Apologies for my late reply and thank you for confirming. I'm happy for you that you're able to utilize your MacMail on your laptop. I was just speaking with a manager from our internet carrier yesterday because I had been locked out of my Yahoo mail for some reason and he said that this MacMail issue has been going on for months and is based on Apple's concern with interface security. They continue to meet with Apple regularly, but its ongoing and doesn't look like it will be rectified anytime soon, unfortunately.
