If you have an Apple subscription, as long as you haven't cancelled it, seems it would renew by deducting the amount from your Apple ID account, if you have a payment method listed.

says:
"If none of your payment methods can be charged, your account shows a negative balance. You can't buy more items or update your apps until you update your payment method."
