When Apple Music streaming was first introduced I tried it. However I realized that Apple Music was making changes to my personal library files and I quickly cancelled the service. Is there a way to have Apple Music streaming that I can guarantee my personal music files will not be touched?

You can create a separate library for Apple Music, then if needs be add in copies of your own files as you please if it isn't easier to simply locate the Apple Music versions of them. As long as you work with copies the metadata in your original files will remain untouched.
