You cannot. You can't change the main iCloud account tied to your Apple ID.

You can add Aliases and use those instead, but the iCloud account cannot be changed.

With that said, you also could not have added an independent iCloud account to an existing Apple ID. You probably just created an alias, which is just a different name for the same iCloud account already tied to the Apple ID.
