Docking Station Issues

I bought a docking station for my Mac Book Pro to replace my current one so that I can have 3 monitors versus 2. But the docking station doesn't seem to acknowledge anything is plugged into it. Is there a security setting I need to select to "allow access" or something? It's been years since I set up my current docking station so I don't remember. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
