Logitech Circle View Doorbell Camera Motion Detection Nightmares

Just bought the Logitech Circle View Doorbell Camera. When it works, it’s amazing. Unfortunately every 24 hours it randomly stops detecting/recording motion. What I’ve tried thus far:

  • resetting all hubs (I have four HomePod Minis, two generation 2 HomePods, and two Apple TVs)
    • This typically gets it working again for about a day
  • Resetting ONLY the hub it’s connected to
    • Again, it will work for about a day
  • Moving my Eero Pro6 mesh router extender closer to the doorbell

Anyone had this issue and know a permanent fix? It seems to be related to the hubs as every time I reset the one it’s connected to, it is temporarily resolved.

This product has been a nightmare. The biggie you need to figure out is: what is the component of your setup behaving badly? There are a few different possibilities

(1) The camera isn't getting good WiFi reception

(2) The WiFi router has an issue

(3) It is a HomeKit issue

What I've done to troubleshoot is ping the doorbell (ping sends a packet (message) from your computer to the doorbell and then times how long it takes for the doorbell to respond).

(i) Log into your router and find the IP Address associated with the doorbell (usually 192.168.0.x where x is a number > 1).

(ii) Using a terminal on your computer (cmd prompt on Windows or terminal on Mac) type ping <<IP>> where IP is the address you located in step (i)

The ping program will continuously send packets and await responses. If you see a lot of lost packets, the misbehavior is presumably that your video is not getting to the HomeHub. HomeKit seems to allow quite a few lost packets before reporting the device "offline"

Also: With your Eero, I've read other reports that these Circle View Doorbells don't do well with mesh systems. I have a mesh network and, amongst the panoply of issues I am encountering is that the doorbell moves from node to node. This will often correlate with a spike in lost packets, but doesn't always show up as an "Offline" message.
