Voice Over Enhancement (1) doesn't exist anymore (Version 10.6.6)

Hey,

I have updated FCP and there is a problem with project-backwards compatibility as there only exists the "Voicevoer Enhancement 2" effect, not the normal effect anymore. This breaks compatibility with older projects.

Or am I wrong and do you still see the former effect? (Of course I have backed up everything :) (and it isn't hard to transform the projects, as "Version 2" is the same as "Version 1", but this is weird and right now audio that has the filter "Version 1" applied is muted))

It took me a bit to figure out what was going on. The older version on my other projects where the old version was still applied and gave me all the same controls. I noticed that in version 1 of the effect on my older projects, the DB was set to way negative, like -31db, but after cranking it back up, it worked. Version 2 doesn't have any of those finer controls, from what I have noticed. So I'm messing around with the version 2 edition now, which seems to have yet to have any of the controls Id had with the original version. Honestly, I am having difficulty hearing any difference with whether it is applied or not.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this has got to be a bug.

I have found a fix for it.

If you still have projects with the original Voice Over Enhancement effect, go there, click on the audio track that has the original effect, then click "Save Effects Preset" and you can use the saved preset on other projects. 😎

Seems to work fine this way for me.

We used the original voice over enhancement quite a lot, together with Audition, it made voice overs sound deep and rich. Voice over enhancement 2 seems to make no difference apart from reducing the sound and quality of the voice over somehow. It seems to be a bug, which I've reported to Apple.

Ohh you're right, the controls of the filter now just bug around, it is still "working", but unusable in this state. Thank you for that.

Well, as you can see that apple wanted to simplify the work the filter does by the new one that has 0 manual adjustments, maybe they just want to abandon the former method. In the meantime, Channel EQ, Compressor and DeEsser luckily still exist as individual filters. I just couldn't find the original DeEsser, it looks like there is only the Version 2 anymore (which I don't understand how to use haha).

So, I will still report a feedback form for this as I would love having some information on this and the next time apple just deletes some effects you could use before.

Just adding my "me too" too. This is TERRIBLE what they've done. I have a project (not the FCP sense of the word) that's nearly 90 hours and hundreds of videos that I occasionally have to go back to to make small corrections and repost online and now when I go back to it, the audio is completely gone. Yes, I know I can sort of bring the audio back up but it's super annoying, especially if I ever need to re-export the whole thing again - all hundreds of videos. And today I've now discovered that even for new videos the voice over plugin (the 1st version) is gone and 2nd version is overly simplified but also for me it sounds horrendous. It's muffled. I do not want to have to try to reproduce the original plugin's sound from its constituent parts but I guess I have no choice. Can't believe they've broken things so badly. I hope they're monitoring this.

Oh so don't you have the problem of the Channel EQ looking like this and every parameter that you change jumps back to this state? There all the channels and Gain are down and if you change it it will jump back.

My problem could also be that the only way I can add the filter right now is by using a preset I made before the update where I already changed parameters.
