Ipad is disabled connect to itunes

A student brought me an iPad Air that shows the message "iPad is disabled connect to iTunes". The problem is, I cannot get it to respond to anything. Here is what I have tried (so please do not suggest):

  1. Connecting to iTunes (with iTunes already open and without it open). I have tried multiple USB ports and different computers. I have tried three different cords with all of these variables.
  2. Turning the iPad off. It will NOT turn off. I have held it down for seconds, let go. I have held it down for SIXTY seconds and then let go. No response.
  3. Hard reset. I can hold down the power button and the home button and it will reset, but only to return to the same screen over and over. Connecting the charging cord at any point in this process makes no difference.
  4. Plugging in the charging cord while holding the home button. This trick only works if the iPad is first turned off (see #2).
  5. Going to iCloud, find my iPad and erasing remotely. It is waiting for the iPad to connect to Wifi??? We have WiFi and I even tried connecting the iPad to the computer after that. Nothing.

Nothing works - after trying everything it still says ipad is disabled connect to itunes. It wont even shut down

Thank you!

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.
